Legionella is a type of bacterium found naturally in freshwater environments, lakes and streams. It can become a health concern when it grows and spreads in man-made plumbing systems. Cases of Legionnaires’ disease reached an all-time high in Switzerland: 582 cases were recorded in 2019.
