GROVE CITY, Ohio (WBNS) – Leadership from Mount Carmel Health System and its parent organization, Michigan-based Trinity Health announced that the hospital did not properly disinfect its water supply which helped contribute to a recent legionella outbreak that sickened 16 people and is being attributed to the death of one patient.
“Tests received this week from May 23 through June 1 showed significant legionella bacteria were in our hot water system at the time. We believe the bacteria are linked to inadequate disinfection prior to Mount Carmel Grove City’s opening,” Mount Carmel said in a statement to 10TV.
The Franklin County Public Health said the exposure occurred between April 27 and May 31.
